5 Things To Have In Your Case Study!

April 19, 2022
Read Time: 2 mins

I’ve been sending a few proposals the past couple of weeks.

And what sometimes happens is this:

Proposal sent → No reply → Follow up → Crickets 🦗

And I’m pretty sure every creative has experienced this at least once in their life.

So here are 3 things I do to get a reply 👇🏻

This email should only take 2 mins to read.

1. Keep following up with value ✨

Most of the time, your client is just busy dealing with other things in their business, so a few reminders is all they need.

BUT make sure to give value when you do this.

Here’s what I mean when I say give value:

👉🏻 Offer to connect them with someone (can be a client or a vendor)

👉🏻 Send them a resource they’ll benefit from

👉🏻 If they’re on LinkedIn, endorse their skills

Here’s an example of a client who ignored me for 2 weeks:

Following up with value basically means being helpful.

I follow up 2-3 times in 1 week intervals.

2. A simple “Yes” or “No” would do 👍🏻

If I still don’t get a reply from those 2-3 follow-ups, then I follow-up by asking them for a specific answer — A yes or a no.

This makes it easy for them to reply.

Here’s what I usually send:

Hey CLIENT,
I haven't heard back from you for a few weeks now.
Is GOAL something you no longer need support with?
Just a simple 'yes' or 'no' would do :)

Funny enough, they reply with more than a yes or a no.

I had one client who replied after a month of following-up.

If your clients aren’t replying, try reviewing your emails.

Can you make it easier for your client to reply to you?

3. Closing the loop

Still no reply? Here’s one last e-mail you can send, which I got from Mike Janda.

Subject: Closing the loop

Hey CLIENT,
I haven't heard back from you in a while so I'm going to assume you've gone in a different direction or your priorities have changed.
Let me know if I can be of assistance in the future. I'd love to help out!

This shows that you’re moving on too, which sometimes causes your clients to panic and reply.

And if they still don’t reply, then it’s time to move on.

You can still try to contact them again in a couple of months.

And that’s a wrap! 🎉

TL;DR:

  • Trick 1: Follow-up with value

  • Trick 2: Ask a simple yes or no question

  • Trick 3: Close the loop

🔠 Typeface: Tahan Grotesk by Albert Zedrick — The sans serif variant of the Tahan Superfamily. Inspired by the Filipino word "tahan" (which means "calm down"), it has the same rounded apexes and vertices as its other siblings. It is a Display workhorse typeface where it can suit a large number of design needs.

☀️ What I've been up to...

📖 Book: The Productivity Project by Chris Bailey — One of the best books I’ve read about productivity. It comes with a lot of easy to implement action steps on how to better use our time, energy, and attention to get more work done.

📱 Course: Instagram Carousel Design by the futur — I’m putting more focus on content creation again on LinkedIn and Instagram, so I had to check this out. Chris walks through his exact process for testing, creating, and analysing his content.
